Each member of the herd has their own unique personality and gifts to offer. The current horses at WHS are Comanche and Blue. When Tara moved back home to Kaua’i, Hawaii, Spirit and Daisy stayed in California.

Comanche is a gorgeous 20 year old Spanish Mustang who was taken out of a wild herd in Nevada when he was a year old. Small, yet sturdy Comanche is a wise old soul who can bring folks to the depths of inner transformation. Mellow and easy going by nature he also possesses a slight stubborn quality that can be empowering to work with. As he was born and raised in the wild till he was one, he still possess that special wild, intelligent quality that Mustangs have but with an endearing sweetness to him.  He has a solid, grounding presence which is healing to be around!

Blue is a highly intelligent 18 year old gorgeous paint horse with one blue eye and one half blue and brown eye. The Native Americans called horses like this 'Spirit Horses' due to their different colored eyes. He is quite the character adding a fun, playful and curious element to the herd. Built for speed and called a 'race car' by Tara's farrier, he is definitely impressive to see him gallop at full tilt. Blue loves to be close to those around him with his sweet, friendly personality.

Xaria is a 7 year old adorably sweet, intelligent and fun Australian Shepherd that Tara has had since she was a pup. Xaria's is a beautiful healing presence who's name literally means 'Gift of the Heart'. One of Xaria's favorite past times is herding the horses.

In Loving Memory:

Spirit was an Arabian gelding who had a very sweet, inquisitive personality to him. He was sensitive and easy to work with yet sometimes had a flair for the dramatic, Arabian style.  Spirit had a famous sire whose name is Ali Jamaal.  He has had a variety of names with his birth name being Hot Jamalee, his nickname 'Baby' and the newest incarnation being 'Spirit' which he embodied quite well! With the beautiful white unicorn color and blond mane, he possessed a certain grace to him that charmed hearts. Spirit sadly passed in 2022.

Daisy was a Haflinger who’s mother was originally from Austria. Daisy was a lesson horse for many years and recently had an injury which prevented her from continuing her previous career.   She had a wonderfully sweet temperament with a slight stubborn streak which is typical among Haflingers. She sadly passed in early 2022.

Leilani, playfully called the 'Hawaiian snow dog' was a beloved companion to Tara for seven years. She was quite the independent, intelligent, sweet and special creature, true to her Siberian Husky lineage. Her spirit passed on September 18, 2015 but lives on at Wind Horse Sanctuary!
